Drawback

DRAWBACK

What is Drawback?

It is a special customs regime that allows companies to import parts, components, raw materials, and other inputs, with suspension or exemption of taxes, to manufacture products for export.

Which are the existing drawback modalities?

Suspension modality: this modality allows your company to import with the suspension of the following taxes: Import Tax – II, Tax on Industrialized Products – IPI, ICMS, PIS/COFINS, and Additional Freight for the Renewing of the Merchant Marine – AFRMM.

Exemption modality: If your company has already imported with tax payment, and has manufactured products that were later exported, this modality allows you to get the right to import, with the exemption of taxes, goods equivalent to those previously imported, to replace the stock. The exemption covers the following taxes: Import Tax – II, Tax on Industrialized Products – IPI, PIS/COFINS, and Additional Freight for the Renewing of the Merchant Marine – AFRMM.

Why should I use drawback?

The suspension or exemption of taxes allows your company to purchase parts, components, and raw materials of equivalent quality to those used by your competitors around the world. Moreover, you pay comparable prices, which puts your products on an equal footing in terms of quality and price with your competitors, making your products competitive in foreign markets.

Who is entitled to drawback?

Companies that carry out industrialization operations on parts, components, raw materials and/or other imported or purchased inputs in the domestic market are entitled to the drawback incentive when manufacturing products intended for export. The drawback regime can also be granted to commercial companies. In this case, the goods must be industrialized on request in an industrial establishment, on behalf of the beneficiary of the drawback regime, and subsequently exported.
